What
is a newspaper day?
This activity is
aimed at providing a rich cross-curricular activity for
students, either in their native language or in the foreign
language which they are studying. A news agency, manned by
sixth form college students, will sift out appropriate news
which will be sent to all participating schools by E-Mail or
fax. Each school will then produce a newspaper based on local,
national and sports news, as well as the feature materials
supplied by the organisers. In addition there is a survey of
students opinions, where the survey responses converted into
data which schools can use on their database or spreadsheet
software to analyse the results, and use them as the basis of
a feature article.
Aims
of this event
To give an opportunity for students to write for a real
audience.
To
create an opportunity for school children to work
collaboratively to real deadlines.
To develop a newsgathering tradition across the curriculum.
To offer an appropriate environment for developing IT skills.
To take part in a challenging and enjoyable activity.
from: An
invitation to take part in The International Newspaper Day
Challenge (Brian Robinson, autumn 1997)
The aim of a
Newsday is for students to produce a newspaper or news website

Wide Web.
